Linus Granfors

17 y/o – Eskilstuna, Sweden

BH2024

Linus Granfors, 17, is one of the most exciting prospects coming out of Swedish motorsport. He is the reigning champion in Britain’s GB4 Championship, winning the 2024 title in his first season of international competition and setting a sequence of new track records along the way.

Before heading abroad, Linus blitzed the domestic Swedish racing scene by powering to titles in the country’s two most important junior-level championships: Formula Nordic and Aquila Formula 1000.

At the Swedish Motorsport Awards in early 2024, Linus was one of the most celebrated drivers, receiving the prestigious Racing Junior of the Year award, a scholarship from the Ronnie Peterson Memorial Foundation, and the blue-riband Rydell Special Award from the hands of racing legend Rickard Rydell.

Linus is the younger brother of Joel Granfors, who is also competing in international single-seater racing.

The career

2024 GB4 - champion

2024 sees Linus make the step onto the international single-seater arena, leaving Sweden for an attack on Britain’s GB4 Championship. Racing for Fortec Motorsport, Linus follows in the wheeltracks of older brother Joel, and immediately proves his point by winning the championship in style.

Racking up an unrivalled six victories and a further four podiums, Linus powers to the title despite having no previous knowledge of the British tracks. He also claims the George Russell Pole Position Cup as the series’ top qualifier, taking six pole positions and a staggering season qualifying average of 2,5.

As a reward for winning the title, Linus is awarded a £50,000 prize towards the next step of his career.

2023 Formula Nordic - champion

Linus dominates Formula Nordic, Sweden’s main single-seater championship, with a record-breaking 13 consecutive victories, landing the title already by summer.

After that, he is invited to contest the new, all-electric NXT Gen Cup touring car series, where he eventually finishes second – despite retiring with technical issues at both Oschersleben (while leading) and at the Mantorp Park season-finale. He had led the standings before the final retirement.

2020-2021 Aquila Formula 1000 - champion

Like brother Joel, Linus begins his car racing career in the entry-level Aquila Formula 1000 championship. After learning the ropes in 2020, he returns in dominant fashion in 2021 to seal the title. The Aquila category features hard-fought, wheel-to-wheel action, making it an ideal platform for future challenges.

2022 Formula Nordic - a learning year

For 2022, Linus continues to follow in the footsteps of Joel by advancing from Aquila to Formula Nordic within the Swedish junior scene. Getting to grips with a faster, more advanced single-seater and slick tyres, Linus gradually ups his pace during the year, winning the final race of the season at Mantorp Park.

2014-2019 Karting

Unsurprisingly, Linus’ first taste of motorsport comes in karting, starting out as a 7-year-old kid. He spends six years of formative competition in this testbed of ability, igniting a spark for the sport and teaching him all the basics of racing. Among the highlights achieved are victories in Sweden’s high-profile MKR Series in 2019, and taking home the Swedish Cup title the same year.
